Sensory Artist Residencies

We are looking for companies who make or want to make sensory work specifically for adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD).

You might be an artist who has never worked in sensory theatre before but wants to move into this field.  Or maybe you already make sensory theatre for children but want to start making more work for adults.

We want to offer the residency to people who have a plan for their project, who are excited to work with adults and who will get the work made at Carrow House out into the world reaching more adults with PMLD.

Frozen Light is offering the opportunity for a number of companies/groups of individuals/individuals to come and develop new work in their studio at Carrow House Norwich.

The Residency Offer

  • A week or maybe two, in our Studio at Carrow House Norwich

  • Use of our Sensory Library of sensory props and objects

  • £2000 bursary to support accommodation and travel costs in Norwich

  • Mentoring from Frozen Lights Co-Artistic Directors who will be on hand to offer support in whatever way you might need, be that creative questions or producing questions.

  • One (or several) sessions working with our sensory studio artists where you can explore your ideas and get in the moment feedback.

  • Our Studio at Carrow House is 12m by 8m.

  • The space is fully accessible and is all on ground level with no steps from the entrance to the building.

  • You will also have use of our kitchen and living room space with access to tea, coffee, microwave, toaster etc.

  • On our floor there is a gender neutral set of toilets with three toilet cubicles, an accessible toilet and hopefully by then a Changing Places toilet which is being built early 2026.

  • We share our space with Musical Keys who are a fantastic music charity and have a studio adjoining ours.

  • The Frozen Light office is also in the space so there will always be someone on hand should you need them.

  • Our sensory library consists of a lot of cupboards of props and sensory objects which will all be available to you.

  • Carrow House is a large building which is shared by 46 other brilliant charities and organisations all working hard to make Norwich a better place.

  • There are beautiful gardens at Carrow House which you are also welcome to use when you are in our space.

  • There is free car parking and 7 disabled parking bays and we are only a ten minute walk from Norwich Railway Station.

Our Studio

The residencies will be available from April 2026 - March 2027, dates can be flexible and we are happy to look at dates that will work for you.  There will be some weeks that are unavailable due to us needing to use the studio, but we are happy to discuss what dates work for you as we are aware this often depends on funding decisions, caring responsibilities, other jobs etc.
